Extremely durable. SmartSurf is fully waterproof, designed to IP67/IP68 standards and beyond — it can be submerged and keep working. The electronics are potted in epoxy resin inside a fully sealed housing with no exposed buttons or ports (thanks to magnetic controls and wireless charging), so water and sand can't get in. It's been tested in wipeouts, saltwater, UV sunlight, and rough conditions. Built for the rigors of surfing, kiting, and foiling.

SmartSurf uses a combination of solar charging and efficient power management. On a sunny day, the solar panel trickle-charges as you ride. It also comes with a wireless charging pad for quick top-ups between sessions. Under typical use, you can go several sessions without needing a charge. No more worrying about a dead safety device — SmartSurf is self-sufficient and always ready.

No phone needed on the water. SmartSurf has an embedded global SIM that works out-of-the-box in 180+ countries, automatically connecting to local networks. If you're in a very remote area without cell service, the upcoming LoRa fleet system keeps you connected locally. We're also exploring satellite integration for truly remote oceans. Your data goes to the cloud and app so your contacts can see it — you just focus on riding.

In an emergency, you activate SOS with a simple magnetic swipe — no tiny buttons to fumble with, even if your hands are cold or shaking. SmartSurf immediately sends your exact GPS coordinates to your predefined contacts and can notify rescue services. If you're incapacitated, SmartSurf's AI will detect something's wrong (e.g., hard impact or no movement for a set time) and auto-activate the SOS after a brief check (it beeps first to let you cancel false alarms). This intelligent system is designed to save lives when every second counts.

We take privacy seriously. By default, your real-time GPS data is secure and visible only to you and those you choose (such as an instructor or emergency contacts). The planned public rescue map is opt-in and only activated during an SOS — nobody can see your routine sessions or track you without permission. SmartSurf uses encryption and follows strict data protection practices to keep your information safe.

A basic connectivity plan comes included with every device for an initial trial period. After that, affordable plans keep you connected for less than the cost of a bar of surf wax per month. The LoRa fleet version has no monthly SIM fees at all — it uses local radio connectivity through a base station.
